Review:✓ The Journey: 1-A new, or renewed attitude about our church, 2-Our church will begin to change.✓ I will be a functioning church member. Based on a Biblical foundation of love, I will serve, I will evangelize, I will study, I will seek to be a blessing to others.✓ I will be a unifying church member. I will not be a source of gossip or dissension.✓ I will not let my church be about my preferences and desires. I will put Christ first, and in so doing, put others before myself.
Q: Show from key Bible verses the difference between church membership and country club membership from the perspective of personal preferences and desires.
A: (Submitted by Susan Marcus – Thank you for sharing your answer with us, Sister Susan!) Luke 22:25-27 (NIV) ~ 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. 26 But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
***The difference between church membership and country club membership is that the first is willing to serve; the other expects to be served.***
Today’s Devotion: Chapter 4 – I Will Pray for My Church Leaders
Pray for the Pastor and Other Church Leaders If you have the book we’re studying from, (I AM A CHURCH MEMBER Discovering the Attitude that Makes the Difference – Thom S. Rainer), your eyes were opened to how important our prayers are! Let’s read 1 Tim. 3. This is the standard for church leadership. As church members, we must be willing to pray for the leaders in our church. We need to pray for our Pastor and Church Leaders; their families, their protection, and their physical and mental health. Without our ongoing intercessory prayer, our churches will not be healthy.
The Fourth Pledge I am a church member. I will pray for my Pastor and all Church Leaders every day. Because our Pastor and our Leaders cannot do all things in their own power, I will pray for their strength and wisdom daily.
Question: Explain the implications of the devil’s trap in 1 Tim. 3:7. (You can answer this individually, or take time together as a family) Let’s be ready to share with each other next Sunday.
Next week >>> Chapter 5 – I Will Lead My Family to Be Healthy Church Members
Let’s pray: Dear God, we desire to make the commitment to pray for our church leadership. Help us to make time to lift them up in prayer. We know that we all need You, but especially our church’s leaders as they work in the ministries that you have given them. With You, all things are possible. We pray for the unspoken requests, for our unsaved loved ones, that the COVID-19 virus and the negative effects that it has left on us would be turned around, and we pray that You will rule and reign in our lives. May souls continue to be won to Your kingdom, and we pray that you may receive all the glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus’ name, amen.
